Application Process

Overview

At the O'Neill Foundation the application process for a capacity building grant is an ongoing collaboration between the Foundation and the grant seeker. Our goal is to support the applicant during all phases of the process by maintaining open and responsive communications. We encourage questions and comments at any point in the process.

Requirements

An organization must be:

a) tax exempt under Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (We do not make grants to private foundations.)

b) located or operating in metropolitan areas where O'Neill family members active in the work of the Foundation live.

These areas are:

  • Cleveland, OH
  • Columbus, OH
  • Licking County, OH
  • Baltimore/Annapolis, MD (limited to Baltimore City, Baltimore County and Anne Arundel County)
  • Big Island, HI
  • Bonita Springs/Naples, FL
  • Houston, TX
  • New York City, NY
  • Richmond, VA
  • Washington, DC metropolitan area (including Prince George and Montgomery Counties, Arlington and Alexandria, VA)

Grant Process Overview

A grant request process consists of four steps:

  1. Determination of Eligibility
    (This is a one-time step and does not need to be repeated for subsequent grant requests.)
  2. Letter of Inquiry
  3. Site Visit
  4. Invited Proposal
